Meanwhile, CNN reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has received advice from the Russian Federation regarding tactics for using “Shahed” kamikaze drones. The Kremlin has gained experience from the war in Ukraine and is now transferring this knowledge to Tehran, which will use it for strikes on U.S. and Israeli coalition military targets. Ukraine has already dispatched three teams of its own experts to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia to assist in countering Iranian drones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said in interviews with Die Welt and Politico that he hopes the United States can help end the Russo-Ukrainian war, but that more pressure should be placed on the Russian Federation rather than on him.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine supports negotiations and that Trump’s influence is key, but insisted the United States should direct its pressure at Russia, not at him.
“We don’t trust Russia, but I think, and I trust that Americans really want to finish with this war. I hope that they will help us, but we need more pressure on Russia, not on me,” he said.
His comments came a week after Trump renewed his frustration with the Ukrainian leader, saying Zelenskyy should “get on the ball” and do a deal.
Trump claimed to have more faith in Vladimir Putin’s willingness to negotiate a ceasefire than in Zelenskyy’s, without providing evidence. “I think Putin is ready to make a deal,” he said.
Zelenskyy stressed that any security guarantees would need approval from national parliaments and the U.S. Congress to ensure future administrations could not walk away from them.
Zelenskyy has been criticized by politicians and constitutionalists for his intent to submit territorial questions to a referendum in Ukraine, as Ukrainian law forbids it.
