Russian strike on civilian bus in Ukraine kills 3, injures 19 passengers
Russian troops struck a bus carrying civilians in the Sumy Oblast on July 27, 2025, killing three and injuring 19 passengers.
The Head of Sumy Oblast Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov, reported that the shelling occurred approximately at 4:30 p.m. near the village of Ivolzhanske of the Yunakivka territorial community.
Emergency services have deployed to the scene to deal with the aftermath of the attack.
Three people were killed, and another 19 were wounded in the strike.
“As a result of the enemy attack, 19 people were wounded. One woman is in extremely critical condition and is currently undergoing surgery. All the injured are receiving the necessary medical assistance,” Hryhorov wrote.
The wounded and the remaining passengers have been evacuated to a secure area.
Officials also confirmed that there were a total of 39 passengers on the bus at the time of the attack.
“This bus had come under enemy fire several times before, but today’s journey became tragic,” Hryhorow reported.
Russian forces also attacked civilian infrastructure in the Kovpakivskyi District of Sumy on the evening of July 26.
Hryhorov confirmed that the strike resulted in civilian casualties.
“Preliminarily, three people are known to be wounded. All have been taken to hospitals, where medics are conducting examinations and providing necessary assistance,” Hryhorov stated.
“One of the injured, a 43-year-old man, is in a moderately serious condition,” Hryhorov wrote.
The Sumy Oblast Military Administration also reported that two men, aged 56 and 50, were killed in a landmine explosion in the Esman “hromada,” which is a county-like local governmental region that includes one or more nearby settlements, on July 26.
Several other people were wounded in separate Russian attacks across the region.
In the Hlukhiv hromada, a 48-year-old woman was injured as a result of a UAV strike.
In the Sumy community, three civilians were wounded in a separate UAV attack. One of the victims, a 43-year-old man, is in moderately serious condition.
The administration also reported that enemy forces actively used guided aerial bombs and dropped VOG grenades from UAVs across the region throughout the day.
The Sumy Oblast has constantly suffered from Russian shelling since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
One of the attacks occurred on the night of May 28-29, 2025. A Russian drone attack killed one person and seriously injured another in the Bilopillia hromada, while damaging a farm, civilian infrastructure, and residential buildings, according to the Sumy Oblast Military Administration.
Russian forces damaged civilian infrastructure facilities in the Verkhnia Syrovatka hromada and destroyed a house in the Richky hromada that day.
Russian forces also struck a farm in the Nedryhailiv hromada, setting warehouses containing agricultural equipment ablaze.
