The Russian prosecutors ask the Supreme Court of Chechnya to sentence Ukrainians Mykola Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh to 22 years in a high security colony.

Lawyer Ilya Novikov posted this on his Facebook page.

The prosecutor requested 22.5 years in a high security colony for Karpyuk and 22 years for Klykh,” he wrote.

The verdict in the case of both Ukrainians will be delivered on May 26, journalist Anton Naumliuk reports.

Earlier, the jury delivered a guilty verdict in the case of Mykola Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh.

The prosecution claims that the Ukrainians were involved in the mass murder of Russian soldiers in Chechnya in 1994-1995.

Karpyuk and Klykh deny guilt and say they were tortured.

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine and the “Memorial” Russian human rights center recognized them as political prisoners.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko insists that both Ukrainians should be released according to the Minsk agreements.

Earlier, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska appealed to her Russian colleague Tatiana Moskalkova with a proposal to promote the effective investigation into tortures against Mykola Karpyuk.
