Two men have attacked the volunteer of the Human Rights Information Centre when he was returning from the Equality March on June 18.

As reported by the volunteer to the Human Rights Information Centre.

“We spent an hour in a cafe. Afterwards, I got on a bus and went to Podilskyi district of Kyiv. And when I got out of the minibus, walked 50 meters from the stop, a man ran up to me and said: “So, how was the Equality March?” At that moment I was thrown to the ground and was beaten for about a minute. There were two attackers”, – the volunteer told.

He noted that he had no symbols that could associate him with participation in KyivPride. He was wearing a mask, which hid his face, during the March.

The man’s cut chin was sewn in the hospital. He also has bruises of the finger and head.

The duty officer at the police station received a statement from the victim. The police told the volunteer that the investigator will decide whether to initiate criminal proceedings on Monday, June 19.

As a reminder, the Equality March took place on June 18. It occurred without significant provocations. However, during the evacuation of participants and observers of the march, attacks by opponents of KyivPride took place.

The day before the event, unknown persons have hacked the website of the Gay-Alliance Ukraine LGBT-organization and posted a message about “declaring war on gays on behalf of the patriots of Ukraine”.
