PGO searches house of former Kyiv police chief within case over crackdown on students in Maidan

Last week, the officers of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine (PGO) searched the house of former chief of the Interior Ministry department in Kyiv city.

As the PGO’s press service reports, this was stated by Head of the Special Investigations Department at PGO Serhiy Horbatiuk investigations on the air of 112 Ukraine TV channel, when asked about defendants in a criminal proceeding over crackdown on student rally on the Independence Square in Kyiv on November 30, 2013.

The searches are carried out in order to establish additional evidence and whereabouts of wanted individuals, and to identify property which may be arrested,” he said.

Horbatiuk said that jewelries and money were seized as a result of searches and arrested. In case of court ruling, they will be confiscated.

I cannot estimate exactly, but as for money, there were 40,000 euros, 10,000 US dollars and gold coins, both old and modern, as well as other valuables like watches. Now these things are being examined and their cost will be determined after examination,” Horbatiuk said.

The name of person, whose house was searched, and the search details are not disclosed.

However, as known, Valeriy Koriak was the chief of the Kyiv city police in November 2013. In December 2013, he was removed from the position of chief of the Interior Ministry department in Kyiv on charges of involvement in crackdown on Maidan protests on November 30.

In February 2014, during the violence in Maidan, Valeriy Mazan was acting head of Kyiv police, Petro Fedchuk was his deputy.

In early 2015, former senior officials of Kyiv police were put on wanted list within the framework of Maidan case.
