Donetsk region court sentenced former law enforcer, who adjusted the terrorists fire during shelling of residential district in Mariupol in 2015, to nine years in prison.

This is reported by the prosecutor’s office of Donetsk region.

During the trial it was established that Mariupol resident, who previously worked in law enforcement agencies, started to collaborate with the ‘DPR’ terrorists in November 2014. The traitor informed the militants of location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military units involved in the conduct of the antiterrorist operation in Donetsk region,” the statement reads.

In particular, January 24, 2015, he also adjusted the fire of terrorists.

Their main target, according to the investigation, was roadblocks and other places of deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the city of Mariupol. However, having inaccurate coordinates, the militants shelled residential district of Mariupol, using Grad multiple rocket launchers,” the statement says.

June 22, the court found former police officer guilty of criminal offences under Part 1 of Article 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or organization) and Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal possession of weapons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 9 years in prison.

As a reminder, 30 people were killed and over 100 were injured as a result of massive shelling of Mariupol on January 24, 2015.

More than 200 buildings were fully and partially destroyed. That shelling has been the largest one since the onset of the antiterrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.
