Hromadske Radio website blocked in Russia because of article about Hizb ut-Tahrir

Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) has blocked Hromadske Radio website because of the article allegedly ‘containing appeals to mass riots, extremist activities’.

The editorial staff received the notification from Roskomnadzor.

In accordance with the requirement of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation No. 27-31-2015 / Id1093-15 dated April 3, 2015, on taking measures to restrict access to information resources, spreading the information containing appeals to mass riots, extremist activities or participation in mass (public) actions held with infringement of the established order, the access to the information resource (pages) http://hromadskeradio.org is restricted by communications service providers in the territory of the Russian Federation,” the notification says.

Russia was concerned about Hromadske Radio’s article titled ‘Russia declares war to dissenting views,” Hizb ut-Tahrir reports.

The notification stated that the article allegedly contained ‘appeals to extremist activities, outreach support to Islamic Liberation Party (Hizb ut-Tahrir Al-Islami) that was recognized as a terrorist organization by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation in its judgment dated February, 14 2003.

Roskomnadzor shall restore the access to website after the article is removed.
