Umerov: Russia’s FSB bans Crimean residents from celebrating Eid al-Adha
Mufti of Crimea Emirali Ablaev has banned Crimean residents from celebrating Eid al-Adha, one of the main Muslim holidays, referring to the Russia’s Federal Security Service and the “ministry of internal policy.”
Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ilmi Umerov posted this on Facebook.
The incident happened in the sixth district of Bakhchisarai town. According to Umerov, the residents wanted to hold an event dedicated to the Eid al-Adha at the mosque on Saturday, September 17. Mufti did not approve that.
September 12, Muslims all around the world start to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the feast of sacrifice and obedience.
With the dawn the Muslims go to a mosque for a morning prayer. After the festive prayer, Muslims may perform the ritual of sacrifice of a sheep, camel or cow.
